NICVD Family Health Fest: Healthy Living is back for World Heart Day!

Every year, millions of people lose their lives to cardiovascular diseases, making them the leading cause of death worldwide. In Pakistan, the burden is equally alarming, with heart disease affecting men and women across all age groups. To highlight this growing public health challenge and to encourage preventive care, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD), in collaboration with Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), is hosting a Family Health Fest — Healthy Living on World Heart Day 2025.

The event, scheduled at Frere Hall, Karachi, aims to bring families together in an environment where awareness, entertainment, and preventive health care converge.

Why This Event Matters

Cardiovascular disease is responsible for nearly one-third of deaths globally. In Pakistan, lifestyle factors such as poor diet, lack of physical activity, smoking, and unmanaged hypertension significantly contribute to its prevalence. Early detection and education remain the most effective strategies to reduce risk.

By organizing a large-scale health fest, NICVD and KMC intend to make free screening services accessible while promoting community engagement in preventive health practices.

What to Expect at the Family Health Fest

The program is designed to cater to all age groups and includes:

  • Free Health Check-ups: Visitors can undergo basic assessments including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose monitoring, and consultations with cardiologists.
  • Interactive Fitness Sessions: Expert trainers will conduct light exercise, yoga, and aerobics sessions to emphasize the role of physical activity in maintaining heart health.
  • Educational Talks and Awareness Booths: Physicians and nutritionists will provide guidance on diet, smoking cessation, stress management, and other lifestyle factors.
  • Children’s Corner: Engaging activities and games for children are planned to ensure the entire family benefits from the event.
  • Cultural & Musical Performances: To make the day enjoyable, the program also features live entertainment alongside health-focused activities.

Distinguished Guests and Performances

The Family Health Fest will also feature notable participation from civic leadership and the arts community. Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Honorable Mayor of Karachi, will attend as the Chief Guest to inaugurate the event and emphasize the city’s commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles.

Adding to the festive spirit, Mr. Shehzad Roy, renowned singer and social activist, will deliver a special performance. His involvement not only brings entertainment to the program but also reflects his long-standing dedication to social causes, including health and education awareness.

As cardiovascular disease continues to grow as a national health burden, community initiatives such as this fest reinforce the need for preventive strategies. NICVD and KMC’s collaboration demonstrates how institutions can join hands to foster a healthier society.
